Calpe is located in the comarca of Marina Alta. It has an area of 23.5 km² and a population density of 855.45 persons.
The town is located 67 km from the city of Alicante and lies at the foot of the Natural Park of Penyal d’Ifac. This is a gigantic granite rock towering over 600 metres high.
The Alicante airport is just 1 hour through the AP7, and Valencia airport 1h and a half. And Benidorm is just 20minutes driving.
You will not believe it, but Calpe is a big bustling town far removed from it’s origins as a tiny fishing village.
The high-rise apartment and hotel buildings with sea front views are very common here. And behind these high rise buildings are the sand lakes “the Salinas de Saladar”
For shopping, there is a market Saturday, selling fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other locally-made goods and produce.
Also you can find the famous Calpe fish market to the right-hand side of the rock. Because Calpe was a long time ago originally a small fishing village.
The fishing boats bring their catch in and you can even watch the fish auctions on the quay and buy the fresh fish yourself. The restaurants serve the fresh fish out the front, you can chose the plate you wish, and it then goes back to the kitchen to be cooked. It is very interesting to taste!
If you want to enjoy the real beer, come to “The Calpe Oktoberfest”, it is one of the most popular festivals on the Costa Blanca organised by the Carnaval Club Calpe Association and Calpe Town Hall. A traditional German festival this is about a lot of beer drinking.
